ANNOUNCEMENTS:

BCRCD welcomes two new staff members!!

Sarah Reynolds - District Manager

Sarah joins BCRCD after having worked with her family’s farming operation, Point Four, Inc. in Biggs; where she was leading the way as Safety and HR manager. Sarah brings a deep passion for agriculture and natural resources with her background in working with private and public agencies dealing with farming and land issues. Reynolds is looking forward to working with local partners and collaborating with new partners to enhance our local watersheds and soils. A fifth-generation farmer, Reynolds farms rice on the family farm, which includes property purchased by her grandfather in 1943. Her farming operations also include sharecropping and custom farm work. She's well versed in both conventional and organic farming and ranching. Sarah also served as a member of the California Farm Bureau Farm Bureau (CFBF) Board of Directors and chaired the CFBF Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee in 2013.

Reynolds attended California State University Chico before transferring to University of Phoenix, where she earned a degree in business management.

Reynolds has been active in community affairs, serving on the Chico Farmers Market Board of Directors, Butte County Young Farmers and Ranchers, 2009 graduate of the CFBF Leadership Farm Bureau program and supporting local youth in agriculture. Sarah is an avid canner in the summer, loves farmer’s markets foodie, international travel and enjoys driving destruction derby cars at the local fair.

Alyssa Cordova - AmeriCorps Conservation Associate

Alyssa is thrilled to be a part of the RCD team! Having lived in Chico for the past few years, Alyssa has been able to familiarize herself with Butte County and loves the area. She has spent her time learning about the county’s natural resources and is excited to put her knowledge to work while gaining experience in the field. Prior to serving with the BCRCD, Alyssa attended Chico State where she attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Energy and Earth Resources and a minor in Management for Sustainability. While in college, Alyssa worked for PowerSave, a student driven energy efficiency and education program, which helped improve energy efficiency on Chico State’s campus. She was also instrumental in gathering data for the Chico Energy Pioneers Program that looked at behavior as a factor for in-home energy consumption. Her background in energy offers a unique perspective to natural resources and she has helped students and community members understand their individual impact on natural resource consumption.

While serving as a member of the Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership, Alyssa will be utilizing her talents to conduct watershed restoration projects and provide outreach and education on the importance of natural resource conservation to various county residents. She will also be recruiting volunteers to help her accomplish these efforts to support the BCRCD’s mission to protect, enhance and support Butte County’s natural resources and agriculture.
